Xiaomi will soon be updating the Redmi Note 8 Pro to Android 11, although it’s currently only in the MIUI 12 beta branch. The company released the Redmi Note 8 Pro in August 2019 with Android 9.0 Pie, so Android 11 will likely be the last Android OS update it will receive.
However, Xiaomi is building MIUI on several versions of Android, so MIUI 12 won’t be the end of the road for the Redmi Note 8 Pro. MIUI 12 runs on Android 9.0 Pie through Android 11, so support for software for Redmi Note 8 could end after two major MIUI revisions, which could be called MIUI 14. MIUI 20.12.9 will be the last beta version based on Android 10 for Redmi Note 8 Pro, which also applies to ten other devices.
The Redmi Note 8 is slated to receive Android 11 as part of the next beta, as are the Redmi K20 Pro and Redmi K30S Ultra. The last one is the famous Mi 10T, for reference, which Xiaomi sells only in China. This Android 11-based version will only be available in China as well, as Xiaomi is no longer running the beta program outside of its home country.
However, the arrival of the current operating system updates for the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro suggests that they should also be some of the first devices to issue the stable Android 11 update.
