The global pandemic has plagued most smartphone brands. The separate Xiaomi Redmi brand, which has released two generations of Redmi Note every year since 2018, has been unable to stop the launch of the ninth series.
While the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro / Pro Max were launched in India and parts of Europe earlier this year, they were not launched in China. Last month when Xiaomi finally launched the Redmi Note 9 series in China, this device changed to a new SKU.
Among these new devices, the Redmi Note 9 4G (China) (codename Lima) is now heading to India, where it will be called Redmi 9 Power (limein). Redmi 9 Power gets its name from the massive 6000 mAh battery that powers the device.
Redmi 9 Power is built for the budget segment, which is why Xiaomi avoids using a perforated screen. It has a standard 6.53-inch water drop notch screen. The screen is Full HD +, has a refresh rate of 60 Hz and is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass 3.
The Redmi 9 Power is exactly the same as POCO’s newest budget device: the POCO M3 (read our live POCO M3 review). It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset and comes with a 128GB UFS storage capacity. Unlike the Chinese version which comes with 8GB RAM, the Redmi 9 Power comes with only 4GB of RAM. The only big difference lies in the rear camera.
The Redmi 9 Power features a quad camera setup which includes a 48MP main camera with Samsung GM2 sensor, 8MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP depth sensor and 2MP macro camera. This smartphone has an 8MP front camera. Even though it is aimed at the budget segment, Redmi 9 Power features a stereo speaker arrangement for surround sound.
The 6000 mAh battery comes with a fast 18W of charge, but you get a 22.5W charger in the box so you can use it with other Xiaomi devices too.
This smartphone is available in four different colors: black, orange, green and blue. In terms of software, Redmi 9 Power comes with MIUI 12 based on Android 10.
Price and availability
The different Redmi 9 Power variants have the following prices:

4GB + 128GB – ₹11,999
The smartphone will be available in India starting December 23 at Amazon India, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores.
