Xiaomi Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 will not be updated to MIUI 12, Xiaomi has announced it on the official Mi Community forum. All four Redmi phones will initially receive the MIUI 12 update in the second phase, along with Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Redmi Note 8 Pro and Poco F1 among other models. However, although some of the other eligible phones received updates in the past, the Chinese company decided to ditch the Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6.
Xiaomi said in its forum that it decided not to provide MIUI 12 to Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 due to “compatibility and performance issues”. However, the company did not provide clear details about the problems found with the four phones. FoneArena reports that Xiaomi has also notified its users about the update through the official Telegram group.
In May, Xiaomi has included Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6A and Redmi 6 among the phones eligible for MIUI 12. These phones are part of the list of models scheduled to receive new updates in the second phase. Other models include Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, Poco F1 and Mi 10, which have received the MIUI 12 update in recent months.
Xiaomi’s MIUI update was not ordered chronologically as the company released MIUI 12 for models including the Redmi Y2, which was released almost a year before the Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7 debut. The Redmi 7 smartphone was launched in March. last year, while the Redmi Y3 made its debut a month later.
Also, by not presenting the latest version of MIUI, Xiaomi only offers a major MIUI update on Redmi 7 and Redmi Y3. They both came with MIUI 10 and received MIUI 11 as the latest major MIUI update. This is different from the case of Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A, which originally had the MIUI 9 version but were updated to MIUI 10 and MIUI 11.
