Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series is arguably the most successful family of devices in the brand’s portfolio, consistently providing many advantages at affordable prices. We haven’t seen a 5G-capable Redmi Note phone yet, but that’s changing today.
The company launched two 5G-capable phones in the Redmi Note series, namely Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9. These phones are not to be confused with the Redmi Note 9 4G and Note 9 Pro launched earlier this year. cellular connectivity being one of the many. the differences between the two families.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro is the most capable device announced by the Xiaomi sub-brand today, with a Snapdragon 750G processor, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, and 128GB up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage that is expandable. Xiaomi also promises some kind of liquid cooling system, so performance should continue to improve over time.
You also get a 6.67-inch 120Hz LCD screen (with adaptive frame rate support), while the 4,820mAh battery keeps the lights on. Fortunately, the 33W wired charging means it can be recharged from zero percent in 58 minutes.
The main selling point is probably just the main 108MP camera, as this phone uses Samsung’s new Isocell HM2 camera sensor (1 / 1.52 inches, 0.7 micron pixels). This sensor has smaller pixels than the previous 108MP sensor, but Xiaomi relies on non-binning technology that combines data from nine adjacent pixels into one. So this means you get an image equivalent to a 12 MP 2.1 micron pixel camera.
You can still capture full-resolution 108MP shots, while Xiaomi notes that the sensor’s dual native ISO technology combined with the intelligence of night mode means you can expect great results in low light.
Other rear camera setups will be familiar to Redmi Note owners, consisting of an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a pair of 2MP sensors for depth and macro modes. Other notable features of the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G include a 3.5mm port, IP53 splash resistance, stereo speakers, side fingerprint scanner, IR blaster, and NFC.
The Redmi Note 9 5G is a step down from the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G variant, unsurprisingly. But there is nothing to underestimate in terms of basic specs, with a Dimensity 800U processor, 6GB to 8GB of RAM, and 128GB to 256GB of expandable storage. In fact, it supports 5G + 5G dual SIM and the ability to switch between 5G networks based on signal quality. The Pro variant lacks 5G + 5G capability.
The rest of the phone is on par with the Redmi Note device, with a 6.53-inch FHD + LCD screen and a 5,000 mAh battery with an 18 W charging cable. You also get a triple rear camera setup (main camera from 48MP, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro), an infrared emitter and stereo speakers.
